Creating cybersecurity awareness in a healthcare organization where employees handle sensitive pathology information daily. We needed an approach that would be both educational and engaging, making digital threats tangible for staff with varying technical backgrounds. The challenge was finding training that would feel relevant and accessible rather than overwhelming, while ensuring the learning would translate into changed behavior that protects patient data and organizational systems from cyber threats.
Employees found the game enjoyable and educational, approaching it with enthusiasm and genuine engagement once they got started. The competitive element proved particularly effective, making the experience more fun while motivating participants to stay focused. What stood out was how the game sparked numerous valuable conversations afterwards about cybersecurity, with colleagues discussing scenarios and sharing insights about vulnerabilities they hadn’t previously considered.
However, we did encounter some challenges with the initial setup. The startup process was confusing for some participants, and the introduction could have been clearer to help everyone begin smoothly. Some employees also felt the game lasted too long for their comfort level. As the organizer, I realized in hindsight that a better introduction would have helped, perhaps an introductory video sent a week beforehand explaining what to expect and how the game would unfold. Despite these initial hurdles, once participants were engaged, the learning experience proved valuable.
The game successfully delivered increased awareness of digital risks and cyber threats throughout our organization. Employees now understand how easily personal information can be misused, creating heightened vigilance in daily work. Beyond individual learning, the experience transformed participants into active knowledge sharers who now discuss cybersecurity openly within the organization. The post game conversations extended the learning impact well beyond the gameplay itself, creating an ongoing dialogue about digital safety that continues to strengthen our security culture.
