Cybersecurity awareness business - BRIGHTN | Phantom'sLab

Phantom’sLab in marketing

  • Organization: BRIGHTN
  • Name: Roel Bijvelds
  • Role: CEO
  • Why: We wanted to understand cybersecurity threats practically instead of just receiving theoretical briefings. As a team, we needed to experience for ourselves how sophisticated modern attacks are and why even security-conscious organizations remain vulnerable to human error.
“Fun to play and it really creates awareness. You learn in an accessible way how cybercriminals operate. It’s interactive, engaging, and it sticks—exactly what you need to truly alert your team to the dangers that exist.”

Case summary

The challenge

Creating genuine cybersecurity awareness in the team of an organization that thinks it’s already doing well with security. It’s easy to think that training and preparation are enough against cyber threats. The challenge was showing that even expert, careful people can become victims of well-constructed attacks, especially social engineering. We needed an experience that would challenge our assumptions while providing practical insights into how attackers really operate.

The experience

The game fundamentally changed how we look at cybersecurity. It showed how much personal information is simply available online and how attackers use this. The realistic scenarios demonstrated that anyone can fall for it when you receive a cleverly timed message with a convincing request. It was truly eye-opening: being well-prepared and thinking you have everything under control isn’t always enough.

What really had impact was seeing how smartly attacks are constructed. Sometimes the social engineering is simply too good to recognize immediately, especially when you’re busy and something seems legitimate. The game showed that cybersecurity isn’t just about being careful yourself, but about understanding which tricks attackers use. Even the most cautious person has vulnerable moments. The fun, engaging format made these serious lessons accessible and easy to remember, without being preachy or fear-mongering.

The outcome

The game created lasting awareness about how cyber threats really work, especially social engineering and how much usable information is available online. The team now truly understands, not just theoretically, why cybersecurity needs more than just careful people. You need layered defense and commitment from the entire organization. The experience confirmed: protecting the organization means acknowledging that people are vulnerable. You must build systems that account for the fact that sophisticated, cleverly timed attacks can mislead even security-conscious professionals.
