Phantom’sLab in Financial Services

  • Organization: Janssen & Janssen
  • Name: Sharon Tulp
  • Role: Inside sales representative
  • Why: As a service provider in debt collection, credit management, and debt assistance, we handle confidential financial data every day. We wanted to raise cybersecurity awareness in a way that aligns with the confidentiality and responsibility our work requires.
“The game started conversations we normally wouldn’t have, and that’s exactly where true awareness begins.”

Case summary

The challenge

In an SME organization, everyone wears multiple hats and teams are small and close knit. That means one wrong click can have an immediate impact on the entire company. We wanted to make our employees aware of digital risks without it feeling like another mandatory IT session. It needed to be relevant, understandable for everyone regardless of technical background, and lead to real behavioral change rather than abstract awareness that gets forgotten after the training ends.

The experience

Across both sessions, 96 employees participated, demonstrating how much of a priority cybersecurity has become within our organization. The game was received with great enthusiasm and involvement from everyone. What stood out most wasn’t just the positive feedback during gameplay, but what happened afterward: spontaneous cybersecurity conversations that emerged organically throughout the company.

Colleagues began discussing situations they recognized from the game, sharing moments when they had almost fallen for a real scam, and asking each other for advice on safe digital behavior. These organic conversations are exactly where real change begins. Instead of top down information being pushed, a bottom up movement emerged where employees themselves took the initiative to make cybersecurity a normal topic of discussion. The game served as a catalyst for a cultural shift that extends far beyond the training itself.

The outcome

The increased awareness is tangible in daily behavior. Employees now understand that a single mistake can quickly have serious consequences for the entire company. They’re more cautious with emails from unknown senders, more skeptical of unexpected requests, and quicker to consult colleagues when something seems off. Cybersecurity has shifted from an abstract IT issue to a shared responsibility embraced by the whole team. Employees now feel comfortable asking questions, voicing doubts, and holding each other accountable, making our organization significantly more resilient.
