Phantom’sLab in education

  • Organization: Studium
  • Name: Peter Koelewijn
  • Role: Operational Director
  • Why: We wanted to raise awareness about cyber threats through training that was both fun and educational. We needed something that would make cybersecurity tangible for our team and show them the real risks in ways that theoretical training never could.
“We were amazed by how fast passwords can be hacked. The solution made us realize that no matter how many security measures you take, you’re only as vulnerable as your weakest link.”

Case summary

The challenge

Creating cybersecurity awareness for an educational organization where employees handle sensitive student and institutional data. We needed to make digital threats feel real and urgent rather than abstract. The challenge was finding an approach that would work for everyone on our team, making complex security concepts understandable and relevant to daily work. We wanted people to truly grasp how vulnerable we are, not just intellectually understand it, but viscerally feel it.

The experience

Employees found it fun and educational, though it was challenging and not equally suitable for everyone. What stood out was the interactive and practical approach that made abstract concepts suddenly concrete. The engaging elements made it more enjoyable and effective, creating team connection and friendly motivation. While some parts felt unnecessarily long, like certain technical processes that could have moved faster, the overall learning was powerful.

What really amazed us were the eye-opening discoveries. We were genuinely shocked by how fast passwords can be hacked. The realization that the only truly good password essentially looks like random keyboard mashing with extra verification on top was a wake-up call. These weren’t just theoretical lessons but practical demonstrations that showed us exactly how vulnerable we actually are. The experience drove home that you can implement countless security measures, but ultimately you’re only as secure as your weakest link.

The outcome

The solution created much greater awareness of digital risks and cyber threats throughout our organization. Everyone is now much more aware of cybercrime risks and understands how quickly a simple mistake can lead to serious consequences. Employees are now far more careful with emails from unknown senders, consistently take multiple verification steps when logging into systems, and understand how easily personal information can be misused. The practical lessons about password security and the weakest link principle have fundamentally changed how our team thinks about digital safety.

“Phantom’s solution showed us the hard truth: security is only as strong as your weakest link. That realization has changed how our entire team approaches cybersecurity.”
