Phantom’sLab in healthcare

  • Organization: ZorgDomein
  • Name: Laurens van Oijen
  • Role: Information Security Officer
  • Why: We wanted to increase awareness of cyber threats and strengthen our security culture through a training format that was both enjoyable and educational. In healthcare, where we handle sensitive patient data daily, building strong security awareness across all teams is essential.
“Phantom’s Game made us realize how quickly a simple mistake can lead to serious consequences. That awareness has fundamentally changed how our team approaches digital security.”

Case summary

The challenge

Building a strong security culture in a healthcare organization where protecting sensitive patient information is paramount. We needed to increase awareness of cyber threats across all departments and roles, ensuring everyone understood their personal responsibility in maintaining digital security. The challenge was finding an approach that would genuinely engage healthcare professionals who are already managing demanding workloads, making cybersecurity feel relevant and actionable rather than abstract and burdensome.

The experience

The game was received with overwhelming enthusiasm and engagement from virtually everyone who participated. What stood out immediately was the high level of involvement from all participants, regardless of their technical background or role within the organization. The interactive and practical approach ensured everyone could actively participate and learn at their own pace.

The competitive element added significant value, making the experience more enjoyable and effective while fostering healthy team dynamics. Colleagues worked together, debated strategies, and challenged each other to think critically about digital threats. The game sparked numerous conversations afterwards about cybersecurity, with teams discussing scenarios they recognized from their daily work and sharing insights about vulnerabilities they hadn’t previously considered. This organic spread of awareness was exactly what we hoped to achieve.

The outcome

The impact has been substantial and lasting. Employees are now much more aware of digital risks and cyber threats, understanding how easily personal and patient information can be misused. The strengthened security culture is visible in daily behavior: team members actively report suspicious activities, approach emails and links with healthy skepticism, and recognize that their individual actions directly impact organizational security. The game successfully transformed cybersecurity from a compliance requirement into a shared responsibility that everyone takes seriously.

“Phantom’s Game created the practical awareness and team connection we needed. Our entire organization is now actively protecting the sensitive data we’re entrusted with every day.”
